Directions and Road Condition

  • Access Road: Gravel road
  • Closest Town: Makhado (Louis Trichardt)
  • Directions to campsite: 11kms north of Makhado/Louis Trichardt along the N1 to Musina. There are only 2 turnoffs to the right before reaching the top of the pass, both are to Witvlag. Do not take the first, tar road to Witvlag. Continue up the pass and go past the Mountain View Hotel on your right, past the Inn on Louis Trichardt on your right and approximately 500m later take the second, gravel road to Witvlag on your right. Travel about 600m down this road and the first dwelling on your left is Zvakanaka Farm.

Comments, Rules and Notes

  • Comments: The campsite has stunning views of the mountains, it is peaceful and very natural with only indigenous vegetation surrounding it. We designed the sort of campsite we like to stay in but seldom find! The sites have been given as much visual privacy as possible from each other and from the rest of the farm. The ablutions consist of 4 toilets and two showers – each site has the keys to two toilets and a shower – no rubbing shoulders with strangers whilst brushing your teeth! They have been tastefully decorated in the Venda style. The campsite is incredibly convenient being placed close to the N1 but in the bush, ideal for a stopover when heading either north or south.
  • Additional Comments: Campsite on a farm
  • Special rules: Minimal sounds from radios, etc. Absolutely no quad bikes allowed.
  • Other: A shelter with cement floor and iron roof with power points and lights - inside and outside. 4 Plate gas stove at William's shelter. Electric ketttle at both shelters.
