Directions and Road Condition

  • Access Road: Tar & Gravel Road
  • Closest Town: Porterville
  • Directions to campsite: From Cape Town get onto the N7 towards Malmesbury. Turn right at the Piketberg / Porterville intersection (R44). Turn left at the T-junction (towards Eendekuil). After 2, 5 km you are going to turn right onto the Dasklip / Cardouw road. From now on it is a dirt road all the way!. Turn right onto the Dasklip Pass itself...after 10km. At the top of the mountain, turn left. You will see the Grootfontein Farm, Beaverlac sign.

  • Comments: Grootfontein Farm owned by the Olivier brothers is a successful example of the concept known as Agritourism - a working farm which allows the public in. It is situated in a secluded 5000 hectare valley surrounded by mountains and is blessed by two rivers - the Ratel ( Honey Badger) and Olifantsriver. Grootfontein is also a natural heritgae site donated for posterity to preserve this area which rates as one of the few wilderness areas in the country, adjoining the Groot Winterhoek mountain catchment area and the Cedarberg Leopard conservation area. Beaverlac is a wilderness campsite in the midst of all this beauty - just a five minute walk from a spectacular mountain pool with waterfall and a five kilometer walk from the Olifants river.
