Directions and Road Condition

  • Access Road: Gravel road
  • Closest Town: Lamberts Bay
  • Directions to campsite: West Coast Road (R27): Take the R27 from Cape Town, direction Langebaan. Continue on this road all the way to Elands Bay. Now turn right in the direction of Redelinghuys. After +- 4 km turn left toward Leipoldtville. After a 12 km stretch turn right toward Leipoldtville. Drive 11 km to Sandberg farm on your right and follow directions to Donkieskraal. The N7 North: Take the N7, direction Piketberg to Clanwilliam. At Clanwilliam turn left on the R364 toward Lamberts Bay. Drive passed Graafwater (do not take first left turn to Sandberg – bad gravel road). 7 km further turn left towards Leipoldtville. At Leipoldtville, turn left towards Piketberg and drive 10 km to Sandberg farm on your right. Follow directions to Donkieskraal. The Shortest Route: (not for normal sedan vehicles, BAD gravel road!) Take the N7 from Cape Town, to Piketberg. At the traffic circle on the N7 in Piketberg take the first exit left. At the second Stop sign, turn right towards Elands Bay. Continue on this road for 38km until you get the Lamberts Bay turn to your right. This road soon becomes a gravel road of 40+ km. Proceed over two sets of railway tracks. The second crossing is at Sandberg station. Sandberg is 1km further on the left. Follow Donkieskraal signs.

Comments, Rules and Notes

  • Comments: Only a two and a half hour drive from Cape Town, Donkieskraal offers a quick escape from the everyday rush and routine. The Lodge is set in a total secure environment, in the beautiful Sandveld, surrounded by indigenous fynbos and breathtaking sandstone rock formations. Come and relax in one of our rock chalets, safari tents or even in your own tent in the camping area. Eland, Kudu, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Red Hartebeest, Impala, Bontebok, Gemsbok, Nyala, Springbok and Ostrich once roamed the Sandveld and has successfully been re-introduced into the game reserve. These animals now roam freely where their ancestors used to trot. Smaller game like the Bat Eared Fox, Caracall, Porcupine, Aardvark, Steenbok, Duikers, etc. is a common sight, especially during the evening.
