Directions and Road Condition

  • Access Road: Gravel Road
  • Closest Town: Heidelberg
  • Directions to campsite: HEIDELBERG: Turn off the N2 at Wimpy/Engen and BP garage. Drive down Eksteen Street until the 4 way stop. Turn right into Fourie Street. Turn left at the next 4way stop into Van Riebeeck Street (FNB and church). Drive out of town over the railway line – direction Barrydale. Tar road changes to dirt. After two km on the dirt, turn right. Continue with dirt road, at the fork, keep left. Road ends in reserve. Total distance 22km, last 10 km dirt. SWELLENDAM: Drive pass Swellendam on the N2. Eleven km after Swellendam is a turn off to your left – Suurbraak/Barrydale. Take this turn off, go through Suurbraak, pass the turn off for Barrydale. Tar road changes to dirt.. Continue with the dirt road until it makes a sharp bent towards Heidelberg. There you have to keep right – towards the mountains. At the T-junction you turn left and at the fork you keep left. The road ends in the reserve. Total distance 48km, last 12km dirt.
