Directions and Road Condition

  • Access Road: Gravel road
  • Closest Town: Mumbwa
  • Directions to campsite: 150km west of Lusaka to Mumbwa on good tar road. Turn right, drive 4km until you reach Total garage. Turn left, drive 1 km on gravel until you reach main gravel road turning right (Kasempa road). After 34km, bear left. Past Mushingashi Conservancy. Turn right at Hippo Lodge sign (87km) and drive further 9km until you reach the Lubungu Pontoon (fee payable in ZK). Kafue River Camp sign 7km after pontoon, turn right. Further 4km until you reach the camp.

Comments, Rules and Notes

  • Comments: The camp is on the north bank of the river, opposite the Kafue National Park, in a game management area to the east of the confluence of the Kafue and Lunga rivers.Select small groups and individuals have the opportunity to stay in catered comfort in four en-suite chalets, or camp in the well-appointed campsite, nestled under splendid trees on the river bank. A suitably equipped self-catering kitchen is also available for clients’ use, both at the lodge and campsite. Guests can enjoy organised activities, or simply relax on the deck out over the river next to the thatched ‘chitenge’. A couple of hours spent on the viewing deck, close to a waterhole behind camp, allows clients to get up close and personal with the wildlife.Complete freedom captures the spirit of the Lunga area…as there is nothing closer to paradise than waking up in the pre-dawn to hear the clink of the kettle as coffee is being prepared and be greeted by the grunt of the hippo or the plethora of bird-song.
